They are mainly three types of single camera production; they are formats, narrative and technical but are broken down into more sections for different single camera production uses.
Formats
----------
They're are three ways that single camera are set out. They are set out by series, serial and single drama.
Series meaning shows that continue for a period of times but have an ending and a new beginning. "Brand new series" showing that new series of a show has come returned. For example, "the Big Bang theory" is a series because the show has a period where they end and continue with brand new series and they would run for mostly a month depending on how many episodes they are in the one of the series. Another example, "Labyrinth" it was a two episode, one series show they had only premiered the show only twice, it had been made into a feature film series instead of several series. Also, the series had an ending to the show it wasn't like other series that are still continuing. Other examples of series are: black mirror, Sherlock, doctor who and more.
Second format of single camera would be serial. Serial are tv shows that are on going shows that have no end, they use a storyline which help keep the dilemma going which means tv shows such as Eastenders will continue to keep running for decades, since their story line requires people to leave and join their casts. Other tv soap dramas that are constantly running are casualty, hollyoaks, emmerdale, holby city, the bill and more.
Lastly, single drama
Narrative Structures
------------
Narrative structures consists of linear/non-linear; split narratives, flashbacks, multi-protagonist.
Linear are stories that have been told I. The order of beginning, middle and end. For example, Notorious BIG, the story is told from how when he was born to himself growing up and making his way to where he ended up. They had begun the story from when he was younger to give the audience a board understanding of how he was, then as he gets older they create a dilemma for him so the story at the middle where he is trying to find a way to fix his problem, then towards the end he ends up where he had dreamed to be . However, some script writers will write a story in a non-linear sequence, where an event is portrayed in another order, they use parallel distinctive such as a "ADFICE" style to tell their story. Films that follow a non-linear sequence are pulp fiction, memento, batman begins, the dark knight, inception, the social network and more.
Split Narratives is when a story is told from two or more people different perspective. Also, if two or more stories combine they can also be considered as spilt narratives. Films that use splits narratives: 4,3,2,1 ; Go; Crash; 21 Grams. They are being told by different narrators to explain their versions of events which show how they lead to where they were. They use flashbacks to tell their stories.
Multi-Protagonist have different types such as protagonist who is the main character, that is considered a hero in the end of the film because of the antagonist. An antagonist is a person or group who are against the main character, they are considered the villains/enemies. They can create a threat towards the main character (protagonist) in films such as iron man, the protagonist is iron man and he is fearing world domination by his enemy the antagonist. Also films such as, Romeo and Juliet, tybalt (the antagonist) kills the mercuito; which causes his later death of romeo (the protagonist), The Lord of the rings, who constantly battles the group of protagonists. However, an Deuteragonist, is the second important character after the protagonist and before the tritagonist. They're role may vary depending on the situation they are in, they can be with or against the protagonist. For example, Sherlock Holmes series by Sir Arthur is an educated and intelligent man of professional standing, and yet his own intelligence is of too rigid of stance to embrace fully the kind of possibilities of which the more maverick Sherlock Holmes is capable.
Tritagonist is the third most important person, they are after the protagonist and Deuteragonist. They are seen as the instigator or cause pain towards the protagonist. But being the least sympathetic, they will use their pity and sympathetic ways because the protagonist is excited.
Flashbacks when they tell the story from end and taking the story back to the beginning to explain how it happened. Such as previous examples I'be used 4,3,2,1 they use a flashback to show how each individual ended up where they were. They showed a female in a car crash in the store they use a flash back to tell the audience how she got there, she had been drinking cause she had a argument with her father on his birthday she ended up hitting a store. Another example, Titanic they use flashbacks using the events of the woman to tell the story about what & how the boat sank and she fell inlove.
Realist & Anti Realist. Realist are believable narratives, they are mostly real and can be related to real life. Realistic narrators prefer loses, with no clearly defined beginning, middle and end. Whereas, Anti Realist are stories that are more fantasy films, they're not really believable such as movies like Hancock, will smith and his ex-wife have super powers they can fly, but the lifestyle they live is realist, however they're super powers makes it unbelievable. Other films such as avatar, Star Wars and more.
