Sound Production

In my group (Saffron, Moses and myself), we had to plan a Vox Pop, where we present a range of public opinion on a topic that is commonly spoken about. The interview is mostly a street interview where we go ask the public what their views on the topics we had chosen to ask the public about. Our group had come up with 5 different questions for 5 different topics, our group had chosen our topics had been Instagram, Make-Up, Sexuality and Size and animation. Since people don’t always agree and disagree with these issues and we wanted to hear people’s opinion. We had asked a range of different people, we tried to no target the people who we had known very well because the responses would seem bias. However, we had used them as well as asking unknown people we had known even though they’re answers may not be as useful if it wasn’t coming from someone we had known. We were going to use an audio recording kit before recording it with a camera.
Having a vox pop was useful because it helps increase confidence; this helps develop people’s build proficiency in image recording. Also, develop skills in sound recording and create different interview techniques in street interviewing situations.

The equipment our group we will be using is a video camera mostly a digital camera that SD- card is available for use. Microphones, which will mostly, used to hear the audience response more because their views matter mostly. A headphone so we can hear the audio while it’s being recorded. We had written the questions on mobile phones since it would of have been harder to lose and easier to edit the questions if someone’s response had been offensive, we had intended to make the questions suitable for anyone to answer.

The questions that had been made are from a range entertainment, stereotypes and discriminations. Even though, most of our questions had been created for entertainment purpose. In the process of recording our group would mostly use close-up’s of the people who are being questioned and medium close-up’s and long shots been used to show the interviewer finding people to interview and to show where our group is. We are mainly looking to use single camera editing, it will be easier to edit. The interviewer will be seen in the camera so a shot-reverse-shot will be used or a medium close-up so both faces are seen in the camera, even though we will angle the camera to play more attention on the person giving the response. Depending on where we are, we would use a long shot to show the different places we had gone to interview. Tripod will be used mostly on a windy day so the recording doesn’t look messy and we have to re-record the section. Graphics and titling will appear if the response is funny because we would like our vox pop to be interesting not too serious because our target audience is mostly aimed for teenagers from the ages of 16-19 because the issues are what we go through in our daily society. We will make sure the scenery is bright enough mostly during night so there are street lamps available.

In the audio when it’s being recording we will try to have the camera in-between the interviewer and the responders. So the audio can be clear to hear; however on a windy day the microphone might have to move the camera from person to person so the audio comes out clear because we will only be using one microphone and the interviwer will have control of how the camera is held and moved. We will be trying to avoid background noises as much as possible so we’ll make sure the microphone is monitor sound. Try to find a microphone that is portable and will cut out the background noise.
